Light Speed

The best of the time-lapse effect shots that I've seen so far (and I'm almost done with voting), mostly because the inside view of the car adds context and takes away the gimmicky feel. It tells a story, rather than just being a technical display of what moving light looks like. A nit: there's just enough detail on the radio that I want to make out what the text says, but it is just blurry enough that I can't. Overall, having the light there is a positive thing, as adding more black area would have unbalanced the shot, but I do wish that one aspect had been slightly sharper. Oddly, I don't have this need for clarity on the speedometer, possibly because it fits well just as geometric shapes, or doesn't really have text to read.

Oddly compelling, though the extra detail on the left seems to unbalance the image slightly. The arches imply a ceiling as well, which would mean that this is not outdoors as the challenge requested.

Busted -- midnight snack

This does not seem to have taken place outside, as the challenge required. The noise/grain is actually fitting, but the lack of focus and shadow detail on the face hurts the image somewhat. I would have liked to see more of the expression.

Africa today (tonight)

Very pretty colors in the sky, and a somewhat attractive skyline. The sun makes me think that this isn't very late at night, though. Also, the skyline seems very slightly high on the image.

Update: Okay, so it's not a sun, but a gas flare. The arrangement, particularly with the lights in the clouds behind it, make it look like a sunset scene, however, which still leaves me *feeling* like it doesn't really fit the challenge, possibly because I can't get over my first impression now. A title change noting that it is not a sunset might have changed that feeling to a sense of wonder about what exactly is being looked at (e.g. "In Africa, This Is Not a Sunset"). The current title, by blending "today"/"tonight", actively encourages the misinterpretation as a sunset.

This seems washed out, and could use a good contrast boost. Scene seems drab, though, with the exception of the colors at the lower right.
