Good idea, I particularly like the shadow. I think the shot is a bit too light to really communicate lonesomeness.

A dead rodent isn't that compelling of a subject for me. I don't really connect with this shot. The ant is a nice touch and the DOF works here, the softness adds to feeling of despair.

I feel hope in this shot more than desolation. I like how the sun's rays are captured, but not for this challenge. Makes it too cheerful.

Cemetary is a bit cliche for this challenge. Even so this does have a forlorn feeling to it. I think it would be better without the the red in the sky. That adds a bit of cheer to the shot which causes confusion of intent. You could have entered this in a contest for "Hope" just as easily. I'm also not too sure about the monument to the far right. It seems tilted at an odd angle, sort of out of place. If you really wanted to go with cemetary as your subject I think you were on the right track but could have had a better shot.

I really feel the emotion of desolation on this shot. I can't take my eyes of her face. The color has a bit of a green feel to it that I don't care for but thats my only nit pick.

Good use of lighting and I like the way the frame is filled. The abandoned building is a little cliche for this challenge but you've done an admirable job with it.

Good interpretation of the challenge. I think you went a bit too dark. It's hard to see the dryness of the flowers on the left.
