Java Manby scalvertComment: Coffee does the same to me; before my first cup in the morning I look like Brad Pitt. |

ABCby charliebakerComment: A is for monkey with a banana. B is for red flower - though bees are all for flowers of other colors. |

The beginning of every dayby bhoundComment: There's something masculine, unforgiving, plain, muscular about coffee which simply does not go with the flowery pouffy design on this mug. Shiny dark beans are usually espresso beans or beans of coffees served after dinner. Point is there are several pints of cognitive dissonance which make the photo a little more hard to swallow.
I'm perplexed by the fact that the beans near the cup , and the beans inside the cup are in focus, yet the edge of the cup is out of focus and the design on the cup is out of focus. One might choose either to use stronger lighting. Or, if it is a camera that lets you do so, increase the shutter time and decrease the aperature. |

In the Beginning, When We Were Youngerby danceswithadreamComment: The lighting here is beautiful and the expressions are strong. It appears to me that the subjects are a little unsharp. I find the spaces at the left and right to be extraeneous And I think I'd have cropped out the looming bar. I'd also have rotated the photo so it was level, although it does feel more dynamic tilted. I'd have liked it better if the shoulder of the one child did not block the face of the fourth. |

The Heavens and The Earthby e301Comment: Yoho! where is this? It's a fantastic photo location, photographed at the most flattering time of day.
This reminds me of a number of famous old landscape paintings some, I think, by eighteenth century American painters, others by the Dutch masters. (Not up on my art history, would appreciate help here.)
If I scored this by what I see on my monitor, I'd be hard pressed to give it more than a 6 or 7. But it is so strongly evokative of big, beautiful canvasses that I think I can push it up a little. I doubt I'll be voting with the crowd, but what's new. |

Bird in Flightby dgordon412Comment: Negative space. It's the rage. But I'm an Apple fan. Apple ad agencies almost singlehandedly created negative space in the late 1980's. And as with any 20 year old fad, I look forward to the time its overuse is over. If I were going to do this photo, rotate and crop so that the bird was near a corner and facing (just about) the opposite corner. But then I'm not a graphic artist by training. |
