Garden still lifeby jjbeguinComment: It's and extraordinary shot.
It would have been so easy for a photographer to ignore this pile of leaves, especially since it lacks the oranges and reds that draw our attention first. Rich textures in gray and pale yellow weave a strong image, drawn together by the mottled yellow palmate leaf near the center. For me it is a lesson in composition quite different than the ones I learn from most DPC shots that win challenges. Thanks. |

War of the Tacksby sofapezComment: The battle of rumper hill? The idea seems funny. I find the gore to be unecessary and distracting. |

Tacked Memoriesby TiberiusComment: 'Tacks for the memories ...' Isn't that how the tune goes? Or do we not remember Bob Hope? I appreciate that the colors all work well together. I like the use depth of field. |

OUCH!!!!!by benhurComment: The suggestion of gore almost always strikes this voter as being both unnecessary and unpleasant. It's not that I just like shiny, happy photos. Just the opposite. I often prefer dark and brooding ones. But in photos and films, I think we find threats are always more scary than actualities.
It's curious, in this case I find the red stuff simultaneously grotesque and unconvincing. I wish the whole thumb were in focus. I wish the warm color of the incandescent light had been corrected. And I find the composition a little static for my tastes. |
