| 06/23/2002 11:39:00 PM | haloby mnewmanComment: hey marc, to be honest, i'm not the biggest fan of this shot. the halo effect is cool, and the sillhouette is nice, but it's just a wierd part of the building that doesn't do much for me. and the angles are all fucked up. heh. and you took this before you got a polarizer, but it could have really benefited from one. |
| 06/23/2002 11:22:00 PM | Rain in the desertby PattyOFurnitureComment: i don't get it. i don't see any rain or shadows, and there's usually not any big green trees in the desert. but i'm not going to judge your photo on a bad title, so i digress. the white circular thing at the bottom is distracting, and i really fail to see how this fits the challenge. |

| 06/23/2002 11:25:00 PM | waning striveby clayComment: interesting sillhouette, but the rest of the photo is too dark. it's hard to make out what this is. i would suggest a closer crop and better, straight on angle to the figure with the light directly behind it. from below, you see too much of the light and not enough of the features of the figure. |
| 06/23/2002 11:41:00 PM | Purple Shadowby snoopyComment: nice shot, and nice shadows. might have benefited from a higher aperture, as the leaves look a little out of focus as they come closer to the lens. i'm also not sure i like how the right edge is cropped off of the leaves. overall, though, a nice shot. |
| 06/24/2002 12:47:00 AM | Lifeby mciComment: For the record, the title for this shot has nothing to do with the photograph itself. It has more to do with my state of mind when I went out to shoot. And if you don't think the "shadows" are the focus of the shot, then you're not looking at it right. Tilt your head to the left and then bang it against a wall. Now you should be seeing it like I do. I broke a personal rule with this photo, and that's never to take a pretentious shot of a tombstone and try to pass it off as art. However, I saw it as less of a shot of a tombstone and more of a shot of the shadows on the stone. If it had been a white wall with those shadows I would have been just as happy with the shot. Setzler - I chose to duotone this shot because the color one sucked. All the green trees in the background really took over and didn't let the contrasts show through. I also thought the use of just light and "shadow" would accentuate the shadow more than the surroundings, but I guess I was wrong. |

| 06/23/2002 11:35:00 PM | Female in the shadowsby daclozerComment: very nice shadows, and the blanket adds nicely to the effect. minor gripes include the fact that you cropped out her foot on the edge there, and that the left side starts to go into a soft focus, which i'm not sure i like. if this shot were a little crisper and cropped a little better, it would have been even nicer than it is. good job, overall. |
