Girl Interruptingby e301Comment: Very sophisticated photograph. Beautifully composed and processed for maximum impact. Also love the title. All in all, I think it's just about flawless, and the most mature interpretation of the challenge topic I've seen. 10. |

Untitled, 2005by pawdrixComment: This quirky shot, which breaks almost every rule, is very effective. To list the several things wrong with it would be pointless, especially as that would overlook the fact that it really works, and is one of this challenge's more creative and memorable images. It ain't beautiful though, and alas will probably not appeal to many. 8. |

stormclouds over the Tararuasby kiwinickComment: Love the photograph (and the Tararuas), but the "stormclouds" don't seem prominent enough to warrant inclusion in the title. In any case, it's an effective use of leading lines, especially with the point of convergence placed on the farm building. 7 |

Starting Lineby SeaSailComment: This is a simple idea, executed with skill. The result is one of those especially effective & memorable images that makes me think, "Why couldn't I have done that?" The photography is competent, but the idea is really terrific. And what makes it even better is you've resisted the temptation to overdo it; the track shoes, the lanes, the dreams, and THE LINE ... that's the whole story. One of the most creative approaches to use of Leading Lines. Well done. 9 |

Summer Walk. (infrared)by marboComment: I've always disliked infrared photographs; I could never see the point. After seeing this, now I can. It is the most specific and sympathetic exploitation of this portion of the spectrum that I have seen. The fact that it is also a very fine composition as well as an effective demonstration of Leading Lines makes me admire it even more. 8. (P.S. I still don't like IR nearly as much as visible). |

Sunny side of the streetby bpickardComment: I like the composition very much. The leading lines are several, and meaningful. There is something about the processing that I feel detracts, however ... the colour of the sky and the harshness of the contrast (both of which I assume were intentional) rob the image of some of its potential impact. They get in the way, is what I mean. So does the bird. Still, it's a fine Leading Lines composition. 7 |

Platform 7by jjbeguinComment: This is the most impressive of the "other worldly" images in the challenge. It successfully suggests an alien atmosphere and environment, without having to resort to "ET" cliches. The composition is also striking, and of course the platform establishes an irresistible interest . 9 |

Enter the 36 Chambersby justinbrookComment: This is a very dramatic, harmonious & visually appealing image. It's also a very strong entry from the point of view of the challenge theme; it could easily be a signature image for a martial arts fantasy like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". That combination; the photographic quality of the image plus its thematic excellence, makes it my top pick and only 10. |

Escape by nico_blueComment: This is not the first time this idea has been done, but it is the best execution of it I've seen. The composition, the lighting and the two poses of the subject are all perfect & make a very impressive photograph. "Fantasy World" is perhaps not the perfect fit as a theme for this image (by that I mean there are themes like Death or Darkness that would be even better), but for an entry this good I think you were justified in going for it anyway. 9 |

Walking on Waterby kmbr2001Comment: Very fine, understated composition & processing treatment, which establishes the mystical quality I'm sure you were going for. Oddly enough, I think the title slightly detracts from the overall impact; it encourages the viewer to think more about how it was done rather than the "fantasy" theme. Maybe "Water World" would have been more surreal or fantastic. Anyway, so what? It is a successful & appealing photograph. Well done. 8 |
