The Treesby kleskiComment: Two fairly similar trees studies in this challenge, and both of them very good. For me, yours has the slight advantage, though I guess the other might score higher. I think it's the horizontal layering that I prefer. Plus it's B&W which I'm a sucker for. Thank you. |

late - no. 48by mgsmith53Comment: Remarkable how engaging is this photograph. Every additional moment spent looking at it is repaid with something new. One of the best examples here lately of a thing being so much more than what it really is. Thank you. |

The spectatorby mitalapoComment: Beautiful portrait, proving (among other things) that it's not necessary to have grotesquely 'pimped' eyes to make an impact and convey feeling. Thank you. |

surferby bspurgeonComment: Nice tones and fascinating lines. Sometimes (often) omitting detail amplifies the picture. This is one of those. Thank you. |

Playhouseby zeuszenComment: Recalls 1185 W Georgia. I eventually realised that to try to literally resolve such images is to do them a disservice. Their beauty comes not from what they are, but from what thoughts and emotions they inspire. The literal dimension plays just a supporting role, and a non-speaking part at that. And it takes some time for the viewer to get there, as it should. They are as good an illustration as any of the posthumous dictum about first emptying the mind; they have such capacity to gently fill it up again. It's a lonely row you hoe, Z, but the marks you make are indelible. Thanks. |
