Too late for Woody (sigh!)by nicklevyComment: Bummer about missing the Woody challenge...you're going to get hammered a little for the use of a toy train I think, at least for this challenge. JMO of course.
About this image. Couple of things jumping out at me. 1) The burn/blurring of the background or table material is quite evident and unnatural. Would have been better off blurring the whole textured area, or if you were removing text or some graphics then do as you have but then blur the whole area afterwards. 2) What's going on by the train on the tracks? Looks grainy like some dodging was done and not healed?
The composition itself is fine with Woody well positioned in the frame, and the train track does a nice job with leading lines. Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

graffiti speedby heatherbComment: Oops? Not quite blurry enough to be abstract, yet too blurry to be a photo of merit. |

But Boss, Let me explain...by Prof_FateComment: Interesting to look at in a documentary, photojournalism approach, but a little thin on the artistic side IMO. Hope you got the heck out of there after taking the photo. Thought they were evacuating the area (based on the forum thread I read). Anyway, best of luck to you in the challenge. |

The Cheap Seatsby mssnareComment: It's cute and humorous but as a challenge entry it has a few "distractions" that are pulling it down. Some haloing around the wheels and the persons torso. Miscellaneous items in the background (tree, building, lines, etc...) that take away from the subject. The color of the sky looks a little strange. All of this is JMO of course and others may see it quite differently. Best of luck to you in the challenge. |

Rails Through Autumnby IvoryComment: Nice color, simple image. Traditional leading lines. I like what you've done here. One thing I do find distracting is what appears to be selective use of gaussian blur on the trees in the background. The bare patch of tree that is sharp (couple of areas, one left and one right bg) make it evident that some manipulation was going on. Not that it's not know in general, but when it jumps out at you, well...it's distracting, that's all. With all of that said - I still like it overall. :D Good luck in the challenge. |

Where no train has gone beforeby scaramangaComment: This is wonderful in it's simplicity and the way the viewer is drawn into the image with the road leading into the woods. Very nice job of processing. I love the tones. Well done. Good luck in the challenge. |

Narrow Guage of Interestby RistyzComment: I like your take on this with the photo getting the train on the move away from you. Yours is the only one like that in this challenge. Hopefully it wasn't a mistake (had to change the battery, etc...). :D It's kind of cool the way the smoke forms a diagonal line across the image. Then the distant tree line and hillside act as a stopper and bring you back to the train (at least for me). Hey! I just noticed at the distant tree line - a line of people? I only discovered this because I was wondering how this would look cropped in a bit and I was about ready to give you kudos for NOT cropping it. Now I see another reason why you didn't. Fun image to look at. Hope it does well for you - good luck. |
