I don't for the life of me understand why this didn't score a LOT better, just for the sheer realism of it... Very nice PJ, friend.

A reportage shot like this is beyond rating. The shot is very impressive primarily because of its realism. 9

Ouch!!
10/28/2006 07:17:34 PM
Holy cow. I hope you win for being in the right place at the right time. That is awsome.
10/28/2006 06:26:13 PM
Looks like a good place to be even farther away from : )

Nice PJ capture -- did you get a version of this published?

I personally like to laugh, and its a nice break from voting. Not only that, but humor is a huge part of photography. Its also of trains and railroads, and the execution on your part is brilliant, standing way far up so we can see the scope of it, and the town for a neat story. Very very good.

Wow. That's not pretty. I hope those were empties, I know they can ferry some nasty stuff in tank cars (at least where I work). Subject-wise, a great capture - looks like you even beat the emergency crews to the job. Great journalism albeit potentially dangerous (see nasty stuff comment). Photographically, there are some blown highlights, but they don't affect the impact of the shot. Nice work
10/24/2006 06:19:08 PM
Wow! Where did this happen??
10/24/2006 10:37:44 AM
Interesting to look at in a documentary, photojournalism approach, but a little thin on the artistic side IMO. Hope you got the heck out of there after taking the photo. Thought they were evacuating the area (based on the forum thread I read). Anyway, best of luck to you in the challenge.

Accidents will happen. Excellent photo journalism. Did anybody get hurt?

Yikes! I like the boldness and beauty of the tradgedy.(Rather the photo of the tradgedy, not the actual tragedy.)

Good photojournalism. It helps to be at the right place at the right time (unless of course that's toxic gas).

Very interesting shot, but my first thought was to wonder if there were any injuries. Since this is unclear, the title seems a bit tenuous.

Amazing timing to have this happen during the challenge. Unfortunately the highlights are blown out and the foliage in the foreground distracts the eye rather than framing the shot.

An exceptionally good/bad stroke of luck as far as timing for the challenge.

Way to be the one who got the shot!
10/23/2006 12:10:08 AM
That can't be good for the water! One improvement might be to get rid of the trees or branches on the left and right. Ofcourse, you can't exactly cut them down.

Terible title for a pretty serious incident.
