Nice study of a flower about to bloom. A beautiful but unusual choice of blossoms... I guess we all mostly work with what we have at hand. Taking the flower out if it's "natural" state lets you focus absolutely on the color, texture, and overall beauty. The dark background works well, but I find the big blank area in the upper right a bit distracting. I keep thinking something should be, but I don't know how you would fill this and keep the pure and uncluttered look you achieved. This is one to be proud of... not "just another flower picture"!

This is such a beautiful picture it nearly brought tears to my eyes... I think babies in general were over done on the subject of "NEW", but this one is exceptional. Most of the other baby pictures were "just babies"

What an interesting picture, although I don't like to see the name of the challenge (new) used in the title... too cliche or something. There are lots of other, more creative ways to express it. You should have saved this one for the current "pencil" challenge! A big of different angle might have allowed better focus on the pencils at the back, while keeping the one in front nice and clear. And it looks like you used the gradient tool for your background... is that allowed? If so it's something I had not thought of but might be of great use.

This is really nice. Great title, gives the photo a double take on the theme "new"... a newly opening flower AND the beginning of something which is much different than the flower itself... While I often find too many shadows detract from the overall picture, the shadows in this one only enhance the colors, textrues and balance in the photo. The detail is wonderful and I like the balance and proportion.

Memories of childhood... what fun to color with a brand new box of crayons... sharp and unblemished by the other crayons! I like the reflection of the colors on the white background. I might have cropped differently, to include more of the box, and less white.

I would have used a title something like "Freshly picked" rather than use the word NEW in the title. Overall, a good picture, interesting to use an ordinary dinner plate for background. It seems a little shadowy on the right, but it's still nice and clear even in the dark parts, and balance is good.

I don't like to see the name of the challenge (new) used in the title... too cliche or something. There are lots of other, more creative ways to express it. I like the photo lots though. The blurring in the background is kind of distracting (to me anyway), but I know how difficult it is to get the background nice and clear when you want the central focus absolute. And sometimes a blurry background is actually better, I don't know. Anyway, good job, I think overall. A good study of an interesting critter.

This is kind of interesting... and a unique photo in the challenge. Good focus on the soap and hand, but the background seems a bit dark, giving a colorless effect. Overall, though, pretty good.

I don't like to see the name of the challenge (new) used in the title... too cliche or something. There are lots of other, more creative ways to express it. Very original idea though, even if it gave me a kind of creepy feeling. I also found some humor in it... I like things that make me smile. The clarity and detail of the focal point is good, but I find the blur of the background a bit distracting.

I'm usually not much for flower pictures but I like this one lots. The detail is exquisite. Balance and overall clarity is great, although I found the bluriness in the background on the bottom left to be a bit distracting. I know somethims, though, there's just no way to crop or eliminate that sort of thing. Beautiful color and light.
