Great close up. I like how you can see the hairy leaves around the flower. The lighting is a bit shadowy towards the back and a bit bright towards the front left. This is probably the fault of the sun. I've seen where people put a thin cloth, or thin paper between the source of light and the subject and it helps to balence the light a little better. Gotta be careful if you try that though, that you don't get funny shadows from the cloth or paper. I like how it's opening up to a new day. Then it will be all ready to follow the sun around all day. Great shot and good luck with the challenge.

I like the lighting, composition, texture. Seems more like new because it is a new bud...

Excellent detail. yellow and green are possibly too close together. Try a white balance with less blue, or subdue the blue channel a little, maybe.

Nice color, shadow-little over exposed to the left. Over all I love it......Score-7 Kee

This is really nice. Great title, gives the photo a double take on the theme "new"... a newly opening flower AND the beginning of something which is much different than the flower itself... While I often find too many shadows detract from the overall picture, the shadows in this one only enhance the colors, textrues and balance in the photo. The detail is wonderful and I like the balance and proportion.

I really think the lighting in this picture is beautiful! It could have been so boring, but the shadows add so much interest and depth. I don't even mid that the spikey parts are a little overexposed. I think it just adds to the monochromatic feel.

Love the light here, nice job!

Nice closeup...I love that the little fuzz is visible...adds a lot to the image. It's too bad that there are some hot spots that are blown out. With my limited tech know how...I don't know how to advise you though.

This is a good composition and an interesting subject, but the lighting is just too harsh. I find that the blown out highlights are very distractive. I think that a bit of fill flash might work for a situation such as this. It would be nice to have just enough fill to allow stopping down and to illuminate the inside of the bud, but not so much as to eliminate the shadows.

Something new.
Composition - quite good
Technical Aspects - quite good, a little bright on lower left. Must have been an early morning sun.
Meets Challenge - yes
Visual Impact / Originality – quite good

Pretty, too much dead space at top for me. Love hairs catching light.
