A bit of a stretch for branch because nothing is being highlighted about the branch, and the mood of the picture is set by the leaves. I'm not being too harsh in voting though, I just wanted you to know my feelings on the subject.

Hmmm. Close to great. A slightly different composition might have helped this one. Particularly on the sliced top end. Looks good though, keep up the work on this technique.

I think partly the harsh shadows and lighting are a bit distracting as is the slightly odd interaction between beach tide line and horizon.

Bark.

The fact that the title says departure can be applied to the subject which is both a departure from the tree, and a departure from the strict chalenge definitions. The fact that it does bear some resemblance to a branch helps bring this nicely in line.

Nice detail in the shadows. Colours are a bit drab and that branch above the bark is quite distracting.
