Day 1: Falling sugar crystalsby johst582Comment: It comes off as completely greyscale and perfectly focused for a macro of this proximity. The few oof crystals are not even a concern. Great first day! |

March Macro - Day 1by SDWComment: A wonderful play between the leaf and the wings. Kind of looks like the hard focus was on the green jagged edge, more so than the wings. Love the color contrasts. I think the square crop option would work very well here if there is room in the original to rotate the insect without losing the ragged edge of the wing. |

Velvert Staghorn Spore - Day 1by sherpetComment: Excellent choice of angle and lines. I love the abstract that you have created. The complimentary colors and suede-looking textures really finesse this well. What a great first day image! |

Grazingby ZeusComment: ...dnmc = 1, but I'm certain you already know that. Otherwise a 10 for a beautiful image, excellent play of light and shadow and use of DOF/POV.
IMO: Too much color for the B/W spirit of this challenge. Subject (monochromatic cows) does not consist of a large enough portion of the image to be considered the actual subject despite the title. Qualifies for an OOBIE tho. |

Hemi-centennial hairby HighNoonerComment: Too much color for the B/W part of this challenge. Subject does not consist of a large enough portion of the image to be considered the actual subject despite the title. Great image, technically fine, IMO: Not in the spirit of the challenge. Nominate for OOBIE. |

Diamondsby bvyComment: Would have liked to see the entire frame filled with this pattern. Would have been a ten for me. Negative space severely hurt my 'subjective' opinion of the image = 6 |

Perfect Harmonyby golfercaz85Comment: Ironic that your title is the exact opposite of the scene. What a mess. Too many competing items within the frame detracting from the punch this could have had. |

A single grainby NigelLewComment: ?? I think the single grain is missing and would have contributed well to a minimum of 3 points higher from me, but the plain brown against brown does not hold my eye enough to stop from wandering back to what's in the bowl and (low DOF) out of focus. |
