ax04_black.jpgby meyersComment: Nice portrait! Great pose and background. The focus looks close but not perfect. Would be even better if her hand weren't chopped at bottom RIGHT <[ edit ]. A bit of Photoshop work would make this really pop I bet. Message edited by author 2006-05-19 16:22:02. |

ax04_blue.jpgby meyersComment: I think this would be better if she were looking more towards the camera. Too much space at the top in my opinion. The background buildings are distracting as well. Cool costumes, though, like you said in your post. |

ax04_stripes.jpgby meyersComment: Nice pose/composition. The round whiteface and exaggerated eye in the center of the L/R axis works very well. The focus seems a tad soft, and the contrast seems flat. If you use Photoshop, I suggest adjusting curves a tiny bit to help that. |

Spring at Babcock State Parkby goldenhawkofkyComment: Lovely! I like the placement of the mill in the frame. This is also a beautiful place when autumn colors are at their peak; maybe we could meet there one weekend this fall. |

The Arrival of Springby CyndaneComment: I like the pose as well as the oversaturated colors, but I wish this were taken in more of a "studio-like environment" as required in the challenge description. |

well traveledby mandyturnerComment: I also think your score suffered a bit because the object isn't readily identifiable as a tire. I might have guessed it were the bottom of a boot, just based on the title. I DO like the tonal range, from the very dark in the upper left to the rather bright in the lower right. I think the image suffers from the lack of sharp focus to the right of the line that runs from top right to bottom center... is that the edge of the tire? If so it looks like everything to the right of that is beyond the very shallow depth of field. That line of the tire-edge itself is also working agains the image IMO, dividing the photo into two disconnected sections.
Last suggestion: I think you should include the technical details (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc) in your submissions. It can be helpful for viewers for learning and for commentors when critiquing.
I didn't score this image, but would have given it a "6". It does communicate "texture" but IMO is a very subtle representation of that idea; not a bad thing, but not a contender to me. |
