I also think your score suffered a bit because the object isn't readily identifiable as a tire. I might have guessed it were the bottom of a boot, just based on the title. I DO like the tonal range, from the very dark in the upper left to the rather bright in the lower right. I think the image suffers from the lack of sharp focus to the right of the line that runs from top right to bottom center... is that the edge of the tire? If so it looks like everything to the right of that is beyond the very shallow depth of field. That line of the tire-edge itself is also working agains the image IMO, dividing the photo into two disconnected sections.

Last suggestion: I think you should include the technical details (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc) in your submissions. It can be helpful for viewers for learning and for commentors when critiquing.

I didn't score this image, but would have given it a "6". It does communicate "texture" but IMO is a very subtle representation of that idea; not a bad thing, but not a contender to me.

I love the tones of this but I didn't know it was a tire. Maybe the inclusion of the letters would have helped. I wouldn't just my progress based on scores here. Lowering of your score just means you are moving past the bright and shinys and experimenting with other types of images. I actually like the drama in this image and again, the tones are outstanding.

what could you have done differently here? well, for one, you could have taken advantage of the expanded size ;-)

next, you could have zoomed in more to capture the contrasting textures between the smooth and the cracked parts of the tire. next, you could have framed the image to make it easier to identify what the object was while making it more of a macro. lastly, you could have used advanced editing techniques to make the image pop more.

Would this image had more impact in colour? IMHO it appears a little flat in B/W.
