This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".

What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.

So, where does this leave me with your image?

Nice, clean stock shot, ready for the menu at Applebee's or O'Charley's. If anything, you could have put in a few more berries.

Nice idea, but needs a little work. The lighting is a unbalanced, leaving the chocolate hidden in the shadows, except for where it's over exposed. Compositionally, I think this would have been more stronger if you had turned the plate maybe a quarter turn to the right and shot from a slightly higher perspective, allowing you to see past the berries and into the chocolate.

Not a bad idea, but a couple qualms. It's a little too tight. I see what it is, but it's so in-your-face that it leaves little to the imagination. My biggest problem, though, is the dirty fork. I don't want to eat anything after someone else has had their fork in it.

Personally, this seems to be more about the glass than the dessert. Technically, it's a spot on image; compositionally, though, it would have been much stronger with only the top half.

Nice idea, but needs some work on the technical side. When using a flat background, I recommend as much depth of field as possible. Here, the front edge is sharp, but the cherry on top is soft. Also, the lighting needs a little attention. While the highlights are blowing out your detail on the left, the reflections are distracting on the right. This is not easy, is it? However, you are close enough that it shouldn't take a lot more practice to be able to nail this type of shot on demand.

Gimme some NOW! Maybe a little tight, maybe a little under-exposed in the shadows, but all the same, nice work! Excellent color palette!

Nicely done! More flying liquid would have been a boost, but I'm not complaining.

Simply beautiful. I wouldn't do much else, except to print it off and hang it on a wall. And *maybe* (just my personal opinion here), try to bring out just a little more detail in the shadows; not much, just a little.

Sorry, but I'm loving it and that usually means dpc won't. I love the colors; just wish there was a little more detail in the shadows and maybe a little more DoF. I also think a square crop from the left would have made this a bit stronger.

This is beautiful; expertly envisioned and executed, this should do very well in the challenge. The exposure is simply perfect. If you'd put ten similar shots into a portfolio, you could probably pick up some nice (paying) work from just about any pastry shop that wants to be competitive.
