The 'grain' in this one is very digital-sensor-noise-looking to me. By that I mean, patchy color noise and horizontal/vertical linear artifacts in the noise pattern. The composition itself is rather nice, I do like its simplicity. Perhaps without the noise it would be a really nice image.

This one is only OK for me, dawg. There's just a lot of chroma noise that seems to be in this one, like in the shadows on the platform between the lighted areas.

Great use of grain: not excessive and it has an attractive quality. Please let us know in the photograph description what technique you used for the grain, I am interested in looking back at the entries after the challenge and finding out what techniques provide attractive grain vs. ugly, noisy digital-looking patterns.

I like the image; by keeping a shallow DOF you have focus attention on the subject and eliminated distracting elements from the composition. However, the bits of horizontal banding, particularly about 1/5th of the way down from the top of the image, is kind of distracting. But still a good image.

Strong Bad says: Holy crap! Awesome image. I love the contrasty look and the way the lines of the dock recede into the distance before ending. The texture of the clouds is fascinating and the glowing sun makes a great silhouette and projects a subtle but effective shadow on the ground. The textures of the rough water and the dock surface, combined with the varying textures of the clouds, make an extremely visually interesting image. By silhouetting the person, there is no distracting detail there, and the monotone nature of the image eliminates the distraction of color. The grain is not overwhelming, just slightly apparent in the sky mostly, and complexity of all the textures in the image coordinate perfectly with the grain in such a way that the viewer doesn't become conscious of the grain.

Good photo; I like the composition a lot. However, I think the grain is a little bit coarse and blocky, for lack of a better way to describe my feelings about it.

Awesome capture! Congratulations on a beautiful image! The right wing (image left) and face are nice and sharp. The simplicity of composition is great, with no distractions in the background, and no other bold colors to distract from the wonderful blue of the bird. The space in the direction the bird is facing is good, it balances the image.

Pure genius! Very creative and well executed. Great lighting; it illuminates the insides of the eggs well, but having the background darker really lets the eye dwell on the main subject: the eggs. Also, the patterns of light and shadow on the ground is visually interesting as well.

Very smooth and clean look to this image! I like it. A simple (uncluttered) and effective image. The monochrome/duotone look is great.

The textures and patterns in this photo a fabulous. There are many lines, and different patterns of light falling on the objects make the scene visually stimulating. The rim lighting of the cat's head and feet is awesome.
