I love the two-tone background, it really makes this image stand out for me. The little rim of light visible around the globe of the bulb is cool too.
There are only a couple of small problems: The line between the black and white in the background is not quite horizontal, and it's a little ragged (not crisp enough). Also, the reflection of your ceiling light in the globe of the bulb is a bit distracting, though it took me a minute before I noticed it. And one last critique, there is a little bit of text on the bottom right side of the threads on the bulb, that clutters the otherwise supremely clean composition.
If those tiny problems didn't exist, this would be a 10. But, still, this is my favorite in the challenge! 9. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 08:29:33 PM | Signby dyriComment: Nice colors, nice subject. Too bad the lamp posts protrude into the composition from below, they kind of throw off the emperor's groove. Maybe if you got down just a smidge lower, you could isolate the sign? Still, an interesting photo. Is it from the UK? I was just there a few weeks ago and I remember seeing this kind of sign. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 08:19:18 PM | THREE MUSKETEERSby RandomActComment: Hmmmmm, I only see two musketeers. Nice composition and lighting though. I love the sliver and gray tones, and the similarity of shape and texture that the mouse and phone have.
But the edge visible near the bottom of the picture is bothersome, as is the projection of light onto the background, it looks like it's coming through some blinds or a grate or something. Other than those two details, this is fantastic. |
| 07/31/2004 08:13:05 PM | White On Whiteby printer4uComment: Very nice. Did you use a flash(es) to light it? If you really shot 1/200 sec, ISO 200, at f/25, it must have been seriously bright there! Also, what is the backdrop? It's very nice and seamless. |
| 07/31/2004 05:38:43 AM | lightby thommoComment: Nice. Very well centered; there's not much worse than a composition that obviously was intended to be centered, but is off by a a hair. I like the viewpoint. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 05:14:19 AM | Organic butterfly?by pixarComment: Cool image. It makes you think for a second and question what you're looking at. (But, regular butterflies, the insect kind, are organic too, right?) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 05:12:52 AM | Early Morning Fuelby garlicComment: This is tremendously stupendously great. The composition is fantastic. Gorgeous black and white processing job, please describe how you did the B&W conversion! (My mono images always feel so dead.) Look, I just noticed there is steam coming from the cup. That's a great detail.
I could question what the "everyday object" is here, but from the title it seems to be the fuel, the brewed coffee being poured into the cup. If this image were any less wonderful, I would knock off a point or two because I don't think a liquid is an 'object'. But in this case, I will make an exception, because everything else is absolutely perfect. 10! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 05:08:07 AM | Ordinary Toiletby pottersclay75Comment: Interesting subject. The lighting and exposure are good. Technically a good photograph. The composition feels very dull though. Maybe another camera angle (lower, or to the side, or both) would add some more interest. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 05:06:09 AM | Little mouse in the houseby LesyaComment: Ha! One of my ideas was mice for this challenge. I even spent an hour or so setting up and photographing my collection of Microsoft Intellimouses, but eventually went with something else.
This is a great image. The silver and black theme makes it feel very professional, businesslike. The brightest area is kept away from the borders, nice leading lines. Sharp focus and interesting textures on the mouse. This is one of the best in the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/31/2004 05:03:53 AM | Perfumeby sherComment: Fabulous lighting and composition. Nice smooth gold tones. Kinda wierd though, the vase or whatever it is feels like it's floating in the air. It's almost surreal. Hmmmm, is that an everyday object? Maybe if you're a king? It looks gold plated. ;-) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
