Runaway Clouds

Hello Kita. My first impression of looking at this photo is that I think your choice of subject really cost you here. As per some of your comments you received, it's not very interesting to look at and a lot of people obviously felt that way.

There's not too much in the silhouette to catch someones attention. Maybe having been closer to the power pole and bringing that as the main focal point may of helped reshape the image and add that bit of life to it that it's calling out for.

The cloud pattern is probably the main attraction in the image. Its a nice formation across most of the sky. Perhaps if you had tried cropping so that the bright light is in the top left corner instead of the middle of the photo, therefore highlighting that main formation across the whole top of the image as the cloud in the top left is a little broken up.

Colour colour colour! I feel it really needs more colour across the sky to help bring it all out. Perhaps the time of day and exposure limited this slightly.

You have had some wonderful entries in your short time here on DPC and some scores that make my entries look pretty sad. Although this was probably not one of your better photos I'm sure you would of learnt a lot from it and that is what makes us better. Well done and best of luck with your future entries! I'm sure within time you'll have a nice collection of ribbons to rival your mum's.

Hi Noud. Funnily enough, I did something very similar to this as an example for a camera conference I went to a few years back. I figured it was always a good way to show an exposure longer than a second.

I really like this photo but it appears some of the voters didn't share my view. I suppose what probably let the photo down more than anything here is really just the subject which maybe a lot of people didn't really relate to too much.

I like the lighting you've used. I would of maybe preferred to have seen it slightly brighter as it's a really nice subject you've used. SHOW IT OFF!! The graduation from dark to light works well for me. I'm finding that the focus looks softer at the top than at the bottom and perhaps it's that graduation that doesn't help here with that?

The last thing I'd like to say here is that I think the crop you've used is very nice. Brings you right into the action of the second hand.

Well done on your effort and best of luck in future challenges. You have some nice photos in your portfolio!

White ball side pocket - Langdon Feb 2002

First up, what a great take on one of Langdon's top photos. The reversal of the white ball and black ball work a treat.

Two things strike me straight away as to why this photo placed where it did. One would be the photo looks dark (on my monitor anyway) and two the focus looks soft!

The crop is almost spot on and has worked well. It would of been nice to get a lot more light on the 8 ball to really make it stand out though, especially where the number is located and this is where I feel the photo has suffered the most. A much brighter image would of done wonders.

As I mentioned about the focus, it looks soft around where the main focal point should be, that being the figure 8 on the ball. The lack of light may make this appear worse than it is perhaps? I found it strange that no one else mentioned the focus in your comments...maybe I'm getting old? ;)

To be honest, I prefer the colour in your photo to Langdon's original (I feel a site ban coming on). The felt colour is a lot nicer on yours.

All up, it was a good effort but the voters didn't click to it. You've got some nice photos in your portfolio and I'm sure it won't be long until we see you featuring higher up the results table. Well done and best of luck with future challenges.
