darknessby knuffelComment: This is interesting. I think it would have worked in the Scene It! Challenge with the title "Men in Black"! |

My God! Piggy got me spade!by redmoonComment: This is a cute idea! It is called Neutering for a male..... For a female it is called spaying so the past tense would be "spayed". |

Horse-zen Timeby lynnesiteComment: This is a lovely evocative picture. However, the vantage seems to be across rather that looking up. |

The Great Sky Mirrorby L1Comment: Laurie, I think your picture is nice and quite Zen. I gave it a 6. If it would have been in color I think it might have scored much higher. Not bright, blazing, high contrast color but subtle color. While it is very zen to have the cloud and bird in the same shape and angle the B&W makes it seem a bit dull.
Since Zen is so subtle it sometimes just doesn't come across well in B&W (at least to me) - if you had just desaturated this around 75% and left that slight hint of color in it I think it would have been fantastic. I'd love to see a version like that! |

Ying & Yang the Balance of Natureby sherpetComment: Dear Sherpet,
Please don't be too disappointed in your score - I always feel if one of my pictures ends up anywhere around the middle that I've done quite, quite well.
I thought this picture might be yours while voting on the challenge, I recognize and like your style! However, this picture just doesn't say "Zen" to me - the palm frond in the front of the picture is almost like a hand over your face preventing you from seeing what is behind. To me, that palm frond in the front just really made it seem like something that was blocking my vision and preventing me from seeing - which is very UNzen.
I hope so much that you won't feel disappointed and stop taking pictures around your house and garden for challenges - lots and lots of people on DPC get known for taking certain types of pictures; bearmusic and his marshes, Zoomdak and his Canon Beach, Me and my dunes!!
Photography brings you such pleasure, I hope you don't give it up till it is actually a physical impossibility for you. Please don't feel upset or disappointed today about your picture or reading the threads.
Your Friend,
Sammie |
