Nice photo. Doesn't meet challenge for me, though. I really like the composition though. 4, Dawn

Because I hate to see low scores on my photos without knowing WHY they voted that way, I offer these comments to explain why I scored this photo low.

I see what you were going for here, and the blur was therefore necessary, but personally for me, this photo would have had to be dynamite in order for the blur to be overloookable as a photographic tool. This was a risky photo to enter, as you might be aware, and I like that people are willing to take risks. But the riskiness alone is not what is of value to me, and so I can't give a better score just for that. It is original, I'll give you that.

The challenge is over, but I had this idea for an adjustment, inspired by thinking about your photo. Perhaps it is worth something if you still want to explore the possibilities of this photo. There's a photo in this challenge that is of a slide, with the shape of an eye surrounding the slide. It made me think that children with new glasses often see the frames of their glasses until they adjust to the new frames/prescription (or at least I did). Perhaps if you had the frames of the glasses just visible slightly (as though we're looking through them) and the portion within the frames in focus and that above, below, and to the sides, fuzzy. That might still relay your meaning without an overly blurry photo. 2, just-married

The idea is good. Certainly that makes me remember my adolescence, but the photo itself was not composed well I thought. Unfortunately I don't have many thoughts on improvements. I'll think and perhaps come back to it. 4, just-married

Although I really like this photo, it's a stretch of the challenge for me. I know you're probably fed up with hearing that, but there it is again. Sorry. I like the sepia decision. I really like the sandiness on the feet. I like the bright spot on the top of the adult foot and I like the texture in the towel. The child's foot doesn't even really bother me, although I think technically, it shouldn't be there in a tight challenge interpretation. What bothers me is that I don't see childhood in the photo. Still, I'll think on it, and may come back. 6 for now. just-married

I like the composition here, except I wish the horses weren't in the background. Or at least no the one on the right. Alas, I imagine the city was probably not volunteering to reorganize their parks for your shot. I like the lines and angles in this photo. I also like the contrasting colors -- that's to be expected on a playground, but it's nicely captured. one of my 4 favorite swing photos -- each of which I tried to jusge on it's own merit. 7, just-married

LMAO. Perfect interpretation, and original. I love that you can read the comic. And how VERY appropriate the sentiment is for this website (in regards to photographic skill rather than smarts). 8, just-married

UPDATE:
k, sorry for the delay. Technical thoughts: 1) The figure is dead center -- or very close. I think this is a good opportunity for you to take advantage of the rule of 3rds -- which I don't adhere to all the time, but this shot would work well. You could line the man up along the left line of thirds (closer to where the tree is in the background now). 2) The lighting in the forest is what is is, but I think this could do with a bit of front lighting -- not much, but just a bit to bring out the details. He is so dark that you lose much detail. This makes him almost a silhouette against his background, which makes me want to explore the background instead of focusing on him. The puddle is nice attention to detail, and I like the vine behind him, which emphasizes his size. All in all, I think it's just north of average with potential ;-) 6, just-married.

Wow. This guy looks real. Bonus points for that. Technical comments coming after I finish my voting. just-married

The commentary in the title is interesting, but the photo doesn't say it all by itself to me. IMO, the angle of the sign didn't add to this picture; lined up nicely would have appealed to me more. Also, lighting changes could have been helpful, but then we can't expect you to control mother nature. 5, just-married

Ever since I received low votes (without explanation) on a photo that I liked a great deal, I have made it my habit to try to explain my votes, especially if they are low. These are the thoughts of one person; use what you can, disregard the rest.

Primarily, I found this photo visually unappealing. The over-exposed bit toward the top I think was intentional, but it was a distraction for me. Arguably, it is your focal point - since the photo is titled Open Door. Yet, there's nothing there that I can see to draw me out. Perhaps, the contrast of a dark house versus bright day outside, but it just didn't work for me. Perhaps if there'd been a blue sky or evidence of other kids playing outside, or something to draw me out.

I hope it's clear that I'm not trying to alter how you composed the photo; only explain why it didn't appeal to me. 2, just-married

This seems like the exact type of photos of children we'd have gotten had children been allowed. I think in that way it's not really in the spirit of the challenge. Without the title, you see joy maybe, but not childhood. Her arm seems in focus, where I'd prefer it to be her face. Her tan against the water is nice. 3, just-married
