I like the change, or perceived change, in contrast from top to bottom.

When I took this picture, it was not intended for the AA challenge. The comment made regarding the background is quite valid but when taken, I used a red background. Only when I decided to change it to B/W did I realise I should really have used a black background, then I would not have needed to burn it as I had to.

This is only the 3rd challenge I have entered and I am always encouraged by the comments I receive.

Last entry was 83rd this one 66th....... going in the right direction! Thanks all

The one thing that does amaze me is that I received 1 from one person and 6 tens? how can views vary so much? I see this happens with many entries.

Nice picture but "Take a photograph in the style of this famous black & white photographer." Kind of gives it away a bit?

Congratulations on a worthy winner. It never fails to surprise me (and you would think I should have learnt by now) that quite often the simplest of ideas wins. This is not an attempt to take the glory from this image by the way.

On occasions one sees fantastic images, with a vast amount of preparation before the shot is taken, then a fair amount of post editing, which is all the result of vivid imagination and thought. I admire the work produced by these people.

Then one of these hits you, so simple, so beautiful, and you think to yourself "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT" Well done arngrimur.

Now I will go away and sulk.

bottom half of the image is great, good detail and contrast. I felt the burning in the sfky let it down

It is a shame the petals are bleached out on the left, would have scored it higher

I was torn between this and "a photograph is made, not taken." in the end I rated them the same. Personally I am not sure if the dark gray sky helps the image or not, I suspect it would have had more impact without.
