week-4.jpgby LanndonKaneComment: k, not quite what I expected in the first week of B&W (there I go again being purist lol). Am sure the truck could stand up without all the texture layers and as has been mentioned would like to see a straight B&W, either way its striking and am looking forward to more of your B&W work this year ) |

Daisy-0031by RedDotComComment: methinks previous commenters have said it all! Welcome aboard to both the side challenge and dpc. In the right challenge (voters can be hyper about flowers) this would have ribboned imho.
My only thought though am sure you tried it would be to move the flower just a little more off centre than it is already. 'Simply beautiful' (a much better title than Daisy lol) |

Weee k 1by SonifoComment: Welcome aboard Soni :)
Doubt there is a 'snapshot' in your family album? all works of art lol. Second snow shot I've commented on and another great exposure (is it the old stopping down 2?). Great B&W image and (of course) a fine composition - glad you managed to get out of the way, must have made it more difficult to shoot "just one mor..........doh!' |

Week 04by hajekaComment: So often this type of 'action' shot can be left flat however the ref's stance and just a little movement in the players left leg helps this to tell a story. At first I thought the ladies room was messing up the picture but on reflection it helps the image imho. |

Week1 - Is It Feeding Time Yet?by CapeSailComment: 2.8? wow! still managed to get plenty of dof even wide open and bravo for using the 105mm MACRO lens for something other than its name suggests - awesome lens.
Lovely composition and the dof actually works very well (my first thought was to bump up the iso and close the lens down to around 5.6). Love the fence, trees framing the shot, the oof foreground and the way the fence drops down the hill. My only niggle would be the detail on the horse, his jacket is just like a black blob without detail. Am not a big fan of borders, probably cos I'm carp at them and always choose the wrong format but this frame seems to open the image up (whatever that means lol).
Some great work in 'BOTH' of your previous B&W side challenges and hoping for more of the same from you :)

Contre-jour Silhouette (b&w 2008 #1)by nikolaosComment: Originally posted by salmiakki: For me this has a real 'film noir' feel to it. Like the shallow depth of field in this one. |
This had me puzzled for a while but yes, film Noir, could almost be a French Street. Looking at the settings you did a good job capturing what you did :) I did spend 5 mins in CS3 with the image and removing the power lines would not be too difficult but you may have to spend a little time getting it just right though tbh I think they actually add to the overall feel of the image. Looks like the image is about 2 degrees CCW off but easy to correct without losing much of the image ;) |

by MephistoComment: One good thing about a side challenge is there are no rules and (if you wanted to) you could really go to town on this image. Aready a great shot I do like all the rooms with light and although the floor is very dark it looks as if some (ok lots) of dodging and burning would create a great textured floor. The stream of daylight shinning along the wall to someones 'tag'? would make a picture on its own.
Had a quick look in your port and you have some great B&W images, isn't 2008 going to be fun :) |

WK 4.jpgby salmiakkiComment: Brrrrr not my idea of entertainment!
Whilst I'd have preferred a bit more depth to the clouds am thinking they lend themselves to this scene quite well. The image overall has nice low contrast feel to it and thats seems to help me feel cold looking at it lol |

Week 04 - Studebakerby KenComment: Looks like a photographers nightmare, all that shiny crome and metal - Excellent shot Ken. My only niggle is the blown out 'blob' in the headlight. Is it just the aperture that gets the stary look or do you need a longish exposure as well? |

Henna by AliciaComment: ok, having read the photographers comments on your profile version (which I actually prefer but guess its a duotone?) I see they are your hands and yes, it can be difficult if your setting the shot up yourself. When I'm doing sp's I tend to keep the cam close enough to trip with the wired remote and take a couple of test shots and check composition etc before switching the lens to manual focussing. Photographing your hands would be a bit more ticky but you could arrange your pose with one hand using the other to focus using the wired remote then use the timer function and recompose your hands?
I do feel your pose here looks a little awkward thus not natural. Do you wear it until it wears off or do you wash it off? |
