Holiday embellishment by clickodakComment: simple and elegant. Just the right amount of negative space. Perfect amount of spill below/behind the ornament. Wouldn't surprise me if comments are made about needing a backlight to define the shape, but I like the falloff the way it is. Very nice light. I dig this! |

Strumming by LevTComment: I could swear the guitarist is more of a "picker" than a strummer here, but either way, you have conveyed sound here. Congrats on the ribbon! |

110 Hz by Nowhere_ManComment: Thanks to everyone for their votes and especially your comments! I have been away a long time and it is great to be back.
HUETH, Lydia: I will admit a dirty secret or two- I struggled to get the vibration effect "strong" enough. The secrets were: don't use flash as the primary light source, and the biggie: loosen up the string quite a lot. Even then I took multiple shots to get this one. I kinda wish the sharp, frozen part of the string would have been in the middle of the vibrating part of the string.
roz: yes, the vibrating string is technically supposed to be vibrating at 110hz if using standard tuning. (note: since I loosened my string, the title is technically a big ol' LIE!)
kasaba: congrats on YOUR ribbon, great image and an inspiration to me for future submissions. The only reason the lighting for my shot was that complicated was that I was trying to keep light from spilling into the sound hole- there's a paper label inside there that I didn't want to be visible. |

Late Stage Tailfins by Yo_SpiffComment: Neat! I love 59-60 Chevrolets and I have taken taillight shots similar to this many times. Often times people will misidentify non-Impala models as Impalas, glad to see this is not the case here!
I see very careful camera placement here, you got the lines just right, perfect amount of sky for framing. Pleasing the way the blue in the car goes with the blue in the sky. Bet it looks even better in full resolution. Congrats on the blue!!! |
