Remembering the Fallenby kaiser_chiefComment: Howdy from the Critique Club!
My first impression was along the line's of mikasi's comment.. the lines do seem slightly soft. You mention that you sharpened, but I might consider pushing it just a little more. Other than that, I definitely like the fact that you waited until the golden light was illuminating the building and the flag was being lowered.
I think to strengthen the photo as is, I would consider cropping it in a little further on the left, so that the flag poles frame the last side of the image. Other than that, the only other thing that immediately comes to mind is that the colors could potentially be pushed a bit further. I sense that maybe you're trying to avoid unnatural looking colors and sharpness, but I think you still have some leeway in that department.
Hope this helped,

Strongest of the Golfersby EyesupComment: Hi there Michael, from the Critique Club. My very first impression on this photo is that the lighting is very harsh. It looks like it was a sunny day out, so not much could be reasonably done about that here.. except possibly moving to a uniformly shaded area, because the extreme difference in highlights and shadows (particularly on the face) aren't too desireable here.
I think a tighter crop and an angle other than straight on would also benefit the shot. Even if he were not looking at the camera here, a different perspective would really benefit the shot. Many of us are used to seeing people at eye level, and used to shots of people straight on like this. I think that giving a different perspective would certainly add some impact. That's about all that I can think of at the moment, and to each his own, but I hope you've found this helpful.
