J'adoreby KonadorComment: Greetings from the Critique Club:
This is a very good shot of this dog and a good example of soft focus. The technique and tones are very good. However, I think the image would be improved if there was a little more shadow detail (in the dark fur). Also, there's some overexposed areas on the nose, but I don't find that to be significant here aesthetically.
General aesthetics are excellent. The expression and capture is good enough to make us all care for this dog who we don't know. That's perhaps the most significant accomplish here. A picture that appeals to many.

For good eyesightby trainComment: [Critique Club]
I was given this from the critique club queue, but I had already commented. So instead of additional comments, I thought I'd take this opportunity to try and illustrate my point below. In addition, I waited long enough that it got put back in the queue, so you will get another critique club review from someone else.
Here's my attempt at softening the lighting on the skin. I did this in a manner such that you could have done this legally with Gaussian blur and fading, as long as your software supports that without using layers. But I actually had to do it manually, and illegally, using layers since I have PSe rather than PS. But it still illustrates what I thought would improve the pic!
Also, outside of a challenge, you could do one additional adjustment. If you did the softening with layers, or used a mask, you could apply it to the face but not the eyes.
Regards--Neil

Nothing is ever as Simple as it Seems!by byshenComment: Very clever! A good simple shot but I think it could have been more interesting compositionally. The background is a bit distracting, and I think for this shot you could have cropped the video camera on several sides to make it more dynamic and less a "product" looking shot. Good imagination! |

Wallby mattcschneiderComment: Wonderful abstract of the wall. In 20 years it will be even more interesting! |

Yellow Roseby viper90kComment: Wonderful texture and very good composition. I think the yellow part of the flower works so well, I find the redish center "distracting". I'd be interested to see how this looked with the red removed. |

Consider the Lilyby banmornComment: The light and tones are wonderful here. Very painterly. The composition works, but I find the greenery on the far left somewhat distracting and not as lush as the center stem and flower. That plus the right lean of the flower, and I would have been tempted to crop and put the flower in the left third. Overall, very nice. |

Solitudeby van9338Comment: Love the foreground tree and crop. Would have liked this to be bigger; some oversharpening evident especially in the back trees (halos). |

Beach Sceneby DiamondPeteComment: Very nice texture and light; the shadows could be improvedwith a bit more detail (e.g., the front of the lower right rock). |

Sponge Bathby ArmilComment: Neat idea; love the color contrasts. I think it would be more dynamic without the curve at the top; really emphasizes the perspective and colors there, and ... much simpler! |
