schoolsopenby bvyComment: Oh yeah. This is awesome. I saw a grungy station wagon of a similar vintage while shooting pastels and tried to follow it in hopes of getting a shot. No luck. Now I'm glad, because this one would put anything I might have done to shame. Love the title and the tableau for this. By the way, I think there may be a small piece of an errant third grader's bike paint on the right rear bumper. Hope this does well! |

en pointe ~~by amy-elleComment: Hi Amy Elle,
Seems you're an IR fan, although this one is quite different than your graveyard entry in terms of IR toning. I'm personally not an IR fan, but the effect in this shot is effective. Your comments regarding gentleness of the tips is right on and your title hints at this intent. I see you're pretty new here - you'll find every kind of style imaginable among the members and registered users, but the styles that are more artistic don't tend to do as well as more traditional photos - which I'm sure you've seen by reviewing the winners and scoring. There are plenty of folks around that appreciate your style of work (if your first two entries are representative of what you like to shoot/process). Hope you find a niche here. It's a pretty interesting community. Welcome. |

Quietby MykkkaComment: Hey Mykkka,
This is a Critique Club comment. I really like the details in the photo. There's a story here for sure. Friday afternoon, the tie is off, the shoes are off, a cup of coffee (or ???) and a moment of quiet (with the phone on manual silence mode) at the end of the week. It's a really clever image. But... as you've no doubt seen, the majority of voters here are not kind to this type of image and your score shows that. If you look at the highest scoring shots, you'll see much attention to traditional techniques and "pretty" images.
So, for my taste, I like the story here and don't care so much about "pretty." If you're comfortable with that, this kind of image may find a following of some like minded photographers. If you're out to get competive scores, that's a different process and the critique could be quite different. Since you're new here, I didn't want to presume. Hope you keep participating and finding your niche.

Illusionby hihosilverComment: Symmetry interrupted. I know this subject/reflection motif is not uncommon. But here, the monochrome processing (even the subtle shift to cooler tones in the water), the frame aspect and the amount of distortion in the water come together in a way that makes this stand out as an exemplar. Nice. |

in the windby flahermaComment: It's just a random mess of feathers. Yet the lines and motion and colors come together in a cohesive composition. Wonderful work. |

plumesby NeatComment: Beautiful. Stately plumes, crossed behind, as if hands behind the back. Very nice. |

The Pierby Ecce_SignumComment: This is among my top picks for the challenge. I tend to be drawn to this kind of abstract in any case, but here the initial impact of the colors and the implied movement is great. Hope it does well. Here's some bling in appreciation:

Outgoing Tideby yakatmeComment: The colors are so powerful in this, I wouldn't normally consider them pastel, but the longer I look, the more the softer shades stand out. This is lovely, well-balanced. Delicate intensity. Here's some bling in appreciation.

Mad Tea Partyby smurfguyComment: I'm enjoying being part of the DPL "First 10" side challenge. Yours is photo #6 in my random voting stream for the Pastels III Challenge.
Yep. This one is terrific. I'm only at #6 in viewing this challenge set, but I suspect this will hold up well as I work through the rest. My top pick for now. I'll be back later. |
