Nude Posingby Cleon321Comment: Well exposed and your model is nude, but she looks very uncomfortable. The crop of the feet is awkward too. |

Obscuredby idnicComment: Wow, this is loaded with symbolism. The female gripping the phallic column. What are you trying to say? |

Most isolated capital city in the world at nightby mike747Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club
I'll briefly talk about the technical stuff, since, based on your own comments and those you got during the challenge, you know the major problem is with sharpness.
I love the sky in this shot, too many people, when doing a cityscape like this make the sky black and the edges of the buildings get lost. Here, the overcast sky and the city's glow combine to give a surreal orange look to the sky.
From an aesthetic point of view, my eye is immediately drawn to the right half of the image, due to the pink and purple reflections on the water there and the fact that the reflections are more intense on the right side. The left half just isn't as interesting to me. If anything, you might try cropping most of the right half entirely.
The only other thing I might suggest would be to try HDR or something to expand your contrast range and keep the lights on the buildings from being blown out. It's just something to consider trying. Message edited by author 2006-12-03 15:14:31. |

On the Brink of Winterby Noel_ZHComment: Nice use of leading lines, and seems technically well done.
I have a couple of suggestions and you are free to take them as you wish.
First, the horizon seems a bit tilted to the right. It may just be an optical trick due to the shoreline on the right side, but it looks tiled a bit to me.
Second, your viewpoint seems to be basically eye-level, which results in the centered horizon and the point of convergence for the leading lines dead center in the image. It makes for a very static composition. You might want to experiment with a noticably lower or, if possible, higher viewpoint. |

Octopussyby neolestatComment: My initial reaction is "that's gross" which is certainly a response, perhaps even the one you were looking for, but the image never goes beyond "that's gross" to capture my interest. I think the juxtaposition of sealife and the nude female form could be presented in a much better way. There's simply no drama, no excitement and little to hold my interest beyond the initial shock value.
If you were trying to provoke, then you have obviously succeeded. Art can provoke, but provocation alone does not imply art.

free study VII out takeby PurpleFireComment: I like the subject looking at the camera, in a way that engages the viwer rather than making the viewer an outsider, looking in. Makes it less voyeuristic.
As for the underwear label, it is distracting, but being so small, it should be easy to clone it out and make it just black.
Thanks for sharing. |
