Funken Eggby
hokieComment: Well, I have been asked to comment on my photo.
The "Why" behind the photo is simple. The answer is "why not". It seems in photography the audience tends to ask "Why" a lot more than in painting or sculpture or other "non-tech" art. I find this both curious and frustrating.
Some ideas that got me going on these elements combined. I hate the typical model shot. The nubile 14 year old pretending to be 21 with the hair blowing, the airbrushed features, the perfect ligting to show off the countour of her saline enhanced, pouting lips. All so we will buy a new car or new cologne.
I wanted an anti-fashion shot. Raw eggs are considered powerful icons in the advertising world, both negative and positive. I had seen the plexigalss trick so many times in the 20 years of my advertising work I never really bothered to think that people might get confused by the illusion.
The sunglasses were a simple nod to the 1970's which was considered to be one of the "funkiest" fashion periods of our recent time. My memory of the 1970's was heavily, HEAVILY influenced by Laugh-in Plus they added some color to the shot. The feathers seemed to be a natural addition to the eggs.
I saw the pale lighting, obviously. I am very experienced at photoshop and could do any thing I wanted with the light. The washed out looked went with my anti-fashion theme.
Finally the "Title". Well, it's pretty obvious. You say the tilte "Funken' Egg" quickly enough you get an "impression" for something else :-) If you can't have fun here whats the point :-)
