The subject has a lot of potential but the lighting is way off to show any good texture. Plus, it often pays off the not include a straight on full coverage shot of fruit or vegetables. Try just concentrating on a section of the lemon with only a portion of it filling a corner of the frame. Then light from the side. The secret to still life is having the lighting go from brighter to darker across the photo. 5...hokie

cool idea but a frontal shot tends to flatten the textures out a bit and loses the highs and lows...giving the material a more front to back shot with a background out of the focal range would add some contrast and interest to the texture....5...hokie

Well, I have been asked to comment on my photo.

The "Why" behind the photo is simple. The answer is "why not". It seems in photography the audience tends to ask "Why" a lot more than in painting or sculpture or other "non-tech" art. I find this both curious and frustrating.

Some ideas that got me going on these elements combined. I hate the typical model shot. The nubile 14 year old pretending to be 21 with the hair blowing, the airbrushed features, the perfect ligting to show off the countour of her saline enhanced, pouting lips. All so we will buy a new car or new cologne.

I wanted an anti-fashion shot. Raw eggs are considered powerful icons in the advertising world, both negative and positive. I had seen the plexigalss trick so many times in the 20 years of my advertising work I never really bothered to think that people might get confused by the illusion.

The sunglasses were a simple nod to the 1970's which was considered to be one of the "funkiest" fashion periods of our recent time. My memory of the 1970's was heavily, HEAVILY influenced by Laugh-in Plus they added some color to the shot. The feathers seemed to be a natural addition to the eggs.

I saw the pale lighting, obviously. I am very experienced at photoshop and could do any thing I wanted with the light. The washed out looked went with my anti-fashion theme.

Finally the "Title". Well, it's pretty obvious. You say the tilte "Funken' Egg" quickly enough you get an "impression" for something else :-) If you can't have fun here whats the point :-)

Hehe magnetic...I thought you might recognize the photo similarity from my pbase account so I removed those photos just in case anyone went there during the voting.

As I mentioned somewhere before, My wife and I raise and show Persian cats as a hobby and this little guy (named "Snoz") always has a fraidy cat look on his face when he plays. All of his brothers and sisters (as do all show quality Persians) have this 'gizmo' kind of face..it's part of the breed look.
