Great idea and creative. Definately texture. I like the white background and the lighting and focus. I also like the simpleness of this. Also good angle. 9

Nice concept of texture. The shadow is a bit distracting, though. If you add another light source coming up (not too bright as to make it look over-exposed) it would fix that. (6) AquaGoddess12880

The lighting is a bit harsh on this, a softer shadow would of looked better. Nice texture in the lemon, perhaps laying so slices underneath it could of provided a more interesting background. 5

The lighting is much to harsh for this,.. i might have tried to difuse the lighting so as to not distract from the subject.

I don't like how this is set up as a documentary-style shot of the lemon. The two textures you've shown (and the great colors) have good potential but need some creative help. What made your decision for choice of background?

cool pic. #1 problem is the lighting. the shadow right behind the lemon itself is distracting. better to have lit it from the side. or used 2 lights. one from the front to light it and one from an angle to elim the shadow. mag99

nice composition

The subject has a lot of potential but the lighting is way off to show any good texture. Plus, it often pays off the not include a straight on full coverage shot of fruit or vegetables. Try just concentrating on a section of the lemon with only a portion of it filling a corner of the frame. Then light from the side. The secret to still life is having the lighting go from brighter to darker across the photo. 5...hokie

Nice clean exposure and excellent detail. I also agree with the composition, simple and effective. My preference would be to get rid of the shadow and have the bottom lit a bit more to bring out the color.

Great idea! I think 2 things could have made this better. (1) sharper focus on the skin (2) getting rid of/moving the shadow. It's very dark and quite big. A small reflector would have softened this or using natural light. Also, did you try another background? Strong blue or even orange would have set the colour off better.

This is a good texture photograph. I do like the texture on the sufrace of the lemon. My critique on this photo is not an easy one. My mind imagines the bright yellow color of a lemon, because it has seen this many times before. The cast light on this particular lemon is making the surface look drab and unattractive to me. I do like the shadow that has been cast and I do like the position of the subject in the frame. I think the angle of the lighting is just messing up my mind's image of a nice bright yellow lemon :) = 6 - jmsetzler

It looks like the lemon has been squeezed. The texture is nice though....a little blurry. But I still like it.

The shadow seems to interfere, and it would have been nice to accomplish more DOF.

well set up shot. excellent lighting and shadows

Kinda rough looking on the outside, I think. It would have been good, maybe, to slice part of the front off so that the viewer sees the pulp as well. karmat

shadow distracts from subject.

I see where you were going with this... but it seems rushed.

Don't like the positioning, but it's a nice close-up.

Shadows on the bottom seem a little distracting.
07/22/2002 12:20:00 PM
good texture but higher angle with more of inside might have improved the contrast of inside and outside textures
07/22/2002 07:27:00 AM
Use a reflector (tinfoil will work) to soften the shadow. You could have placed the lemon on a nicer surface.

yummy

good idea for a texture. I also like the color contrast. I think a different composition would work better. perhaps one that highlghted certain parts of the lemon. the middle part with the spokes coming out, or where the fruit meets the rind, for instance, would provide more interest.

Maybe a little less light
