Evening South Boundby drphotos-dmComment: A terrific demonstration of how to capture motion and detail at the same time. A nearly perfect conversion to black and white, the image is strong, purposeful and provocative causing the viewer to look closely at the image and discover more detail. A well thought out image with a couple of minor flaws that only an extremely picky reviewer would even think of looking for. A very worthy ribbon contender. Well done. |

Motion Controlby wyantkarlaComment: A little better lighting control reducing the highlights would have been a plus. Not an overly interesting image from an artistic sense, it does provide a lot of detail and color differences. A little more thought into the composition would have made for a better image. A good entry into the challenge, it falls just short of being truly effective. Perhaps a little change in viewing angle or use of a light board to add some back lighting into the subject would have helped. |

Train Crossingby subject22Comment: A excellant conversion to black and white, this image is both a technical and artistic success. One minor nit pick is that the sky could be a little more dramatic, but adjusting for that would be outside the challenge parameters. It might be worthwhile revisiting this with an eye towards a local print competition. Well done. |

Lil`Runawayby limerickComment: An excellant example of composition, this image evokes an earlier time and place. A good solid conversion which could have used a little more difference in contrast between tones and slightly more control on brightness. Despite some minor issues, this image is a technical success and a highly effective artistic success. Well done.
PS: While the clothes and hat evoke an earlier time and feel, the velcro strapped tennis shoes are an anachronism. :>) Yeah, it's picky. :>) |

The Train Station...by NikonJebComment: An excellant image which could very well be a demonstration on how to compose and capture an image with detail, varying angles and a host of soft gentle color. One of the best reviewed so far, it should be considered a top ten image and a heavy favorite for a ribbon. Well done. |

Old and Witheredby WickedSoundComment: A good idea, but over saturated steel supports, the overly darkened structure shot against a flat sky wash out any interesting details and do not affect the image in a positive way. It is a unique angle and presentation which is a positive, but the execution is lacking in both a technical and artistic sense. |

1928 Passenger Car.... 1948 Snack Car.... 2009 Priceless Museum Carby BubbaPixComment: A very good concept, it fails from being just that side of crisp and sharp. A little more time composing the image and getting the best shot from a focus standpoint would have been a plus. The linear shape of the car and the subtle curves of the ceiling are a plus. A very solid entry into the challenge, it suffers from an indistinct window view and slightly over done whites on the car's floor. |

Coming home for Easterby CraftyComment: A very postive piece recreating an earlier time when walking the rails was a common method of traveling to other places. The slight color cast is a plus and the over all feel is of an antique linotype. A very unique and different look at the challenge subject. Both a technical and artistic success. A certain top ten image and potential ribbon winner. Well done. |

Leavingby fridjoComment: Similar in concept to an earlier image, it does not quite impact the viewer in a positive way. The right on the edge whites are a plus and the two empty rails provide some contrast to match the train movement. A technical success. From an artistic standpoint, it has some positive elements, but just doesn't have the pop that invites the viewer to revist and look for more detail. A good entry into the challenge. |

S.P.1673by gunsmith6Comment: A good concept and monotone treatment is a plus. Unfortunately, the over lighted condition on the locomotive is not well controlled affecting the image's impact. Not a technical success while being right on the edge of being an artistic success. The angle of the image is different. A good entry into the challenge. |
