With a little softer focus, this would have been a brilliant image in the post-modernist impressionism genre of photography. It's very effective and the background has a painted feel to it very remeniscent of Claude Monet or Thomas Dowling. A very effective image with a lot of artistic impact in addition to it's technical success. Well done.

Minimalism as an artform is the idea of reducing something to it's most basic form including colour, shape, value, lines and texture - or lack of. This basic capture exemplifies the concept of reduction to it's very elements. Simple and exquisite, it accomplishes the goal of pleasing curves and shapes and the flat grayscale presentation is a perfect fit. Probably not understood by many, this is an excellant representation of minamalist photography in the vein of Orit Raff. Well done.

A good solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it is an intersting image but of less than universal appeal. A good entry into the challenge.

Sometimes an idea can be so subtle that it fails even though the image has some artistic qualities. In this image, the grain is obviously present for effect, but the vague subject matter decreases it's impact. The title gives no hint to what the image is supposed to convery and the soft focus, while artistically effective, does not allow for a hint. It helps to have some context in images like this and there isn't any present that this reviewer can see.

A very nice image that just falls short of being perfectly executed. The foreground appearance against the sky appears false in that the precision of the edges against the rather diffused sky are distracting. The starfield highlights are perfectly exposed which is a huge plus. A good solid entry into the challenge that just falls short of complete technical and artistic success.

Overdone and with no significant impact, the colors do compliment each other in a positive way. It might have been an interesting experiment to just concentrate on the signage rather than the rest of the image - that might have been a real stunning image with a little less movement.

A good image is overly large considering the subject matter - a little tighter crop would have helped. Nice use of bokeh which compliments the subject, although the subject could be a little sharper. From an artistic standpoint, it is an interesting image but of less than universal appeal - a different angle might have helped exposing more of the face of the flower against the petal background. A good entry into the challenge.

The soft focus in this could be seen as a negative, but the effect is very pleasing to the eye and compliments the model very well. Nicely shadowed with effective lighting, it is a very worthy entry into the challenge. A little sharper focus would have been a good choice, but this works as well.

A good solid image that is properly framed and composed - a technical success with a very clever use of bokeh. From an artistic standpoint, it is an intersting image but of less than universal appeal because of the "tunnel" effect where the central part of the image is focused and the rest slightly defocused. A slightly longer look with similar use of bokeh and a sharper foreground would have improved this image tremendously. A good entry into the challenge.

A excellant character portrait that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it has significant impact being rich with excellant detail demonstrating of the power of properly controlled light and focus and proper use of the zone system to create an artistic impression. Well done.
