before i started photographing insects i never even realised the diversity in the fly world .. some flies are very very attractive .... this one isnt so pretty, but those red eyes are amazing .. !
its a great shot .. i love the contrast between the eyes and the greenery all around him .. anyway i'm just looking thru the challenge .. not voting .. :)

I like the textures and the dof works for me. Maybe it could have been just a teeny bit closer but then you'd have lost some wood grain. Nice one.

The crisscross pattern enhanced by the rust on the old nail becomes the point of interest as it contrasts so well to the pitted groove diagonals of the equally old wood - even though their colours are closely matched. Textures are warm and visually superb in this shot.

As a previous commenter indicated there is just too much going on in this image. Yes it is central but there is no subject per se. Your eye is taken all over the frame. Simple is always better. For a staged shot like this start with one item or element and add to it incrementally. All of these items are interesting by themselves but together they compete for the viewers interest making chaos. Looking through your profile your image "Butterflies" works well because it is simple.
