BW Me 2by ScooterMcNuttyComment by ubique: Yes. That is what I was trying to say. And the reason I used the word 'reductive' to describe it is because it is more usual for people of your age to want to do the opposite; to elaborate and embellish (clothes, piercing, tattoos, gestures, all that stuff). No so many feel secure enough to depict themselves so frankly, without all those props. So I congratulate you both on the lovely photograph and the confident self-image. I was an idiot when I was 15. I'd have done all the stuff Jason mentioned. Probably worse than that. Of course, I was also a guy. |

A Golf Ball?by ScooterMcNuttyComment by love: well.. yes it is.. and a question for you.. is this your best image? It's sort of "stockish" but there is a spot on the ball (this is advanced so it could be removed) and it has some grain. I like the idea of it - set up, lighting, tone but I think it could be a stronger image. |

A Golf Ball?by ScooterMcNuttyComment by WickedSound: Love the lighting here and especially your shadows. The blue works well for me and I like the placement of the ball. A little noisy, but it doesn't bother me. I think if it had been run through Neat Image, you would have lost some detail. Nicely done! |

BW Me 2by ScooterMcNuttyComment by smardaz: Originally posted by ubique: It's very frank, this self-portrait. Reductive. I know you're a couple of generations younger than me, but I hope you won't think it patronizing if I say that I am surprised to find that level of restraint in one so (relatively) young. It's a very lovely, assured portrait. |
i think what Paul may be trying to say is that it's a very subdued and understated (in a good way) self portrait. Most people your age would be holding the camera in front of them with some other person mashed face to face and sticking your tongues out while giving the "hang loose" hand sign or something... |

4.jpgby ScooterMcNuttyComment by smardaz: this whole series is really nice! good call using your latop top to set the flower on in this one as it adds a nice reflective surface. Very nicely done! Message edited by author 2009-03-06 11:36:24. |

Rest stop for the homelessby ScooterMcNuttyComment by J-Me: Personally, I think that the blurring of the background trees tends to fit perfectly with what has been portrayed in this shot. This man's world may well be a 'blur' to him...or from one dream state to another, with everything blending in but his immediate surroundings since this is likely the only things that he feel connected to. At that moment, his only connection is to the bench and his own belongings.
Out of the tons of photos in here that have this type of a theme, I really think that this one has depth. Congrats on this capture!!! Nicely done!!! |
