What I find provocative here, and maybe I'm fooling myself, is that the black and white version seems sharper than the color version. More contrasty, too. Kind of reverses the expectation that the seeming present is more at hand than the past, as we tend to view black and whites. Also, the sense of the cyclist fleeing into his own time is engaging.

There's a real story going on here, quirky, melodramatic and affecting. The light, colors and composition are terrific. I'd like to see it through, but it's left to the imagination.
