Comment by Ken:
I like the contrast between the old, rusted engine and the black tanker car. Good job on exposure and colors.

As far as composition, I'd suggest a couple of tings. Even though your horizon is level in the foreground, the trains appear to be going uphill. While I like that blue sky, I'm thinking a wider crop would work well with your subjects.

Speaking of the subjects, that rusted engine would make a great subject on its own. That's the kind of thing to walk around (safely of course) and take pictures from different angles and see what comes out.

Comment by Trinch:
The composition is nice in this photo. The decision to break up the water, land, and sky in thirds works very well. Overall the photo is a bit grainy and hazy. I UV filter, if you aren't using one, really helps cut through the haze.

Comment by Trinch:
The combination of the newly painted tanker to the rusted locomotive provides a nice contrast. Consider using the track lines to somehow help bring the viewer's eye to an object of interest instead of just cutting across the photo. My personal impression is that the near track is taking my focus right off of the edge of the photo.

Good light on water and bird. Nice composition with trees mostly right angled to wavelets; I have the sense of the pelican anchoring the dark almost heavy mystery in the trees.

to be honest - i like the soft feel of the original you took - the second edit seems a bit too harsh for my taste (and I am a contrasty kind of guy)
