Windchill -20Fby smichenerComment by smudgeSMJ: Beautiful and serence, I like that one tree has some leaves still and the other doesn't. The framing feels a little crunched to me, I wish the taller tree were completely in the frame. |

Windchill -20Fby smichenerComment by JeffryZ: Is is because you pushed the colors too much or over-sharpened it but there are halos around the trees. Composition is very good. |

Watkins Glen Poolby smichenerComment by dahkota: I much prefer this one as there is a greater variety of tonal values - the other is very flat, with not enough in the brighter range. On the left, about the middle, my eye wanders over to the bright spot of leaves, and immediately jumps to the fence. I then get stuck there as it is the only rigid spot in the frame. Everywhere else is wonderful flow and curves; at this spot, I am captured and in jail. Then I start thinking about that, to the detriment of the rest of the image. If it were mine, I would darken that fence so it is less intrusive into an otherwise lovely natural scene. |

Watkins Glen Pool Quadtoneby smichenerComment by bvy: You lost a lot when you made this monotone. Quadtone probably wasn't necessary. I think a straight desat, with or without a tone, would have accomplished the same effect.
That said, I think it needs more contrast and some strategic dodge and burn to make it work. It strikes me as kid of flat. The color version has a nice sense of depth and space that is lost here. I think a more careful conversion is needed to bring some of that back.
