For some arthropod nerdistry, this is technically not a daddy long legs spider, and in fact, is not even a spider in the first place. It's a member of Arachnida commonly called a Harvestman. Lots of different species of them, actually. The easiest way to differentiate between Harvestmen and spiders is their fused body segments. Spiders have two distinct body segments, the cephalothorax and the abdomen, whereas Harvestmen do not.

weirdbugby cynthiannComment by spiritualspatula: If you're curious, I think this is a young katydid specimen, judging by the body shape a wing buds. Not sure of actual species though. Nice choice on your focus, it really draws the viewer's attention to just where it belongs. |
