The Ring and The Lilliesby bennettjamieComment by bennettjamie: Originally posted by h2: For me that's not an artistic but a product shot (being a product photographer myself). Yes it is a product but whos not to say that a product shot can't be artistic? I do appreciate your comment though. I do agree with the ring not being in sharp focus as I previously stated, however the rest of the photograph is very interesting, and I don't think cropping it tighter would have made this photograph better, and in fact would have taken away from it.
Thanks again for your comment. |

The Ring and The Lilliesby bennettjamieComment by tate: Jewelry in NOT easy to photograph well. It is small, reflective, and somewhat unforgiving. So your subject is tough to start IMHO.
The background and ring are equally banal when combined here. Neither is being explored and they don't relate to each other in a cohesive way. A more interesting composition or more detailed macro would add some interest. I gave it a 5 for the good lighting and color. |

The Ring and The Lilliesby bennettjamieComment by Elaine: I gave it a 4. The ring (which I took to be the subject) is not in focus and is too centered for me. Also, to me the most interesting part of the iris is where the yellow meets the purple, and that is not in focus either. |

The Ring and The Lilliesby bennettjamieComment by emorgan49: The yellow looks like an eye and the white on the right looks like teeth making it kind of creepy. I like the ring on the purple but there is too much competing with it. |

The Ring and The Lilliesby bennettjamieComment by RKT: I gave it a 4...I would have liked it more without the ring, and as Oliver mentioned the dust/pollen could have been cloned or healed out. To my eye, the comp is off. Had the ring been gone and the image rotated 90 degrees clockwise or counter clockwise, I probably would have given a much higher score...the colors are quite lovely. |

Behind the Veilby bennettjamieComment by giantmike: I gave you a 7, and am surprised you didn't score higher.
- Great catch lights in the eyes
- Perfect focus
- Really good colors
If I have to find flaws, I think it would be
- The vertical orientation can be hard to score well with. Sometimes cropping so it's not so vertical can help
- I don't like eye liner. Everything else feels natural about this.
