the placement and posture of the boy forces the viewer to reimagine the waves of sand as either feeding into him or emanating from him.

Nice photo: suggestion, it could have been better if the focus was in sea or sunset/rise.. without gadget  and lady facing the sea or sunset/riseâ€Â¦

I would love this... if... the cellphone weren't there.

If she were focusing on the waves... the ocean... something bigger than she is.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This image was already discussed in the forums, so I have little new to add here. The tones are interesting, though a little washy, and I never thought I'd see someone in India wearing a parka/anorak! I do have to admit that does throw me off a little as I'm expecting to see him in more traditional clothing, but ah well.

The unlevel horizon distracts from your subject; the blown-out part of his beard on the left is an additional distraction. Shooting at a slow speed while having the ISO jacked up to somewhat ridiculously high levels - it IS daylight after all, your subject is just a few feet away; ISO 200 to possibly 400 should have been perfectly fine. Then you could have had more dof and a faster shutter speed, which would have added more tones to your subject. Composition is a little on the safe side, with the subject centred and head-on to the camera.

Not a bad image by any means, but you may want to pay a little more attention to your settings and the light especially when shooting in ambient misty light like this.

Hope this has been helpful.

Susan

I am one of the people it may not appeal to as I don't really find any value in this type of image. However of its type its ok. The thing that puts me off big time is the anorak which seems so out of place.

Another guy in more fitting attire may have worked better in my opinion.

Had I have voted I would have awarded a 5 or 6.
