And The World Stood Stillby WonderDudeComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club, Daniel!
Very glad that you have joined a local photography club and are working on improving your skills. I can tell you used a tripod here...what a difference a simple piece of equipment makes eh? The composition is fairly straightforward, I like it overall but would have preferred to see one of the roses a little lower than the others, to help create a leading line up from the apples. (Personally I would have used just one red rose, but that's me, and still lifes aren't my strong point). I do agree with the comment re the oof apples and highlights...your photo club can help you learn how to control highlights, but in the meantime most still lifes are front-to-back in focus....f2 is extremely shallow, try going a bit deeper next time, longer exposure and keep the ISO low.
All in all very nice work and a good showing in a Free Study, which are always tough to do well in. Keep up the good work and definitely continue to work with your photo club!

A Cow's Hurdle by WonderDudeComment by JamesDowning: Greeting from the critique club.
I appreciate the impressionistic look of your photo. However I don't believe that is what you intended. A big blown up photo like this is a serious technical challenge, and I think that your camera just wasn't quite up to it. It looks like you struggled with noise that you were trying your darndest to elliminate. It was a good effort, which works when small, though looks poor when blown up on a big screen. Otherwise, I would have loved some creativity here in some way. Something to make it unique.
I hope you gathered a bit of insight from this critique, cheers. |

Green Eyed Ladyby WonderDudeComment by JakeKurdsjuk: Something like this needs to be tack sharp on the eye to work. This isn't, and the artifact in the reflection just takes away some more. Great eye color, but not a great photo. |

Green Eyed Ladyby WonderDudeComment by Lydia: I love the composition.
BUT... in my opinion, there needs to be something very sharply in focus in an image like this.
That eye needs to COMMAND my attention... not get it when my eye finally gets there.
But... that's just an opinion. All voters have an equal one. |

A Cow's Hurdle by WonderDudeComment by Lydia: Seems overly sharpened.. or noisy... somehow.
Could use some contrast.
I'll be back to visit again.
ETA: Great detail! |
