Kind of interesting, but to be honest, it's not thrilling me. I think it's the yellow color of the lights. Out of curiosity, I did some adjustments on this and I think It has some real potential as a b/w image.

Ah, but if you're going to play an instrument, clarinet is the one. I played in junior high and high school. My dad played in high school as well. And his wife gave him a clarinet for Christmas this year - boy, was he surprised! He's heading out to buy sheet music and a beginner's guide - neither one of us can remember what fingering goes with which notes.

I love how a picture can trigger memories, even those not of the one presenting it! :-)

I think this is a very good shot of "fairy tale meets adulthood" - obviously an adult, but still with a bit of whimsy from both the smile (which can be seen as whimsical and perhaps just a wee bit sly) and the softness.

I do not get the score on this one at all - perfect for the challenge and you've managed to create a complete make-believe world with those watery stairs in the reflection, in front of which sits a most regal and gorgeous real cat! I can almost believe there are two cats here. Very cool shot!

There are some nice patterns going on here, but I feel that the bumping up of the shadows on the trees may have been taken a little far, it draws attention from the really natural looking footprints that look so cool in the snow

I SO agree with you on this. Why should it be considered a "no-no"? Since it's not well agreed upon as to where the lines are in this rule and is so ambigious, even to SC and it is stifling in interpretation...so much so that I don't think that I'll EVER use anything that could even remotely be considered "art" or a photo within a photo ever again in a shot now.

LOL...yeah, been to the Dairy Queen TWICE in one week! The calories ended up as a "couch sit" for a week! ;-) BAD GIRL! BAD GIRL!!! :)

A while back I entered this for a challenge and just by chance left the paint brush in the frame, not thinking that it would be considered a work of art!!!!!! If the paint brush wasnt there it would have been DQ'd without me even thinking of that rule. Heck I just put some paints on a piece of card and swished them around, who would think LOL. So I was lucky and the rule can be very subjective so just keep on truckin' these things happen.

Edit to add: I think the rule has got much more strict since I did this though so today it would probably be a DQ

LOL...yeah, thank you Lori! I think that the rules just became a little more "subjective" as to what is considered "art" and just how much of a photo is considered "too much" or "fooling". It's hard for us, as entrants to decipher where those lines are when SC can't decide within themselves.

Actually, in looking at your shot (I hope that you framed it afterwards! It's really kind of cool!) I think that had yours been DQ'd, a LOT of others would have to have been as well! Where is the line between a shot of some pencils with lines drawn from them and the tips of the pencils photographed with the majority of the shot being the lines drawn by the pencils and what you've done here with the brush in it? It's such a fine line that I think everyone should stay completely away from anything to do with art or photos unless the rule has more definition to it. Even then, it seems that during the recent discussion thread about this very rule, people can't agree on what is considered "art". Even things like statues/displays/cemetary stones are considered art (which is true!) so, where are those lines? When is it considered legal and when is it considered crossing that line? *SIGH*

Anyways, thanks Lori!!!
