Life Span by dsidwellComment by lbWhaples: Composition seems unbalanced, boy's face needs more dimension. Excellent dimension in man's face. Why is the man looking down or have his eyes shut when the boy is looking at th camera? It gives each subject a different relationship to the viewer. Is the man reading him a book? is he asleep? These are the questions that run through my mind. |

'Water Under the Bridge' (Cello Bridge)by dsidwellComment by stephan: Greetings from the Critique Club, David :)
Composition: Good. I like the angle you used. There is some wasted space in the upper right corner. It's mostly black and the strings seem to be some kind of visual "barrier" which keep your eyes in the lower left corner, where the light is. There are two brighter spots under the strings in the black area, but I can't really see what they are (it's not the water). That's a bit distracting. Either add more light to the black area or remove these spots. I also would like to see the full shape of this backward "S" formed hole (unfortunately I don't know the correct English term).
Lighting: Like others in the comments said: Gorgeous. I like the mix of light and shadow very much. Good job!
Focus: The focus is good for my taste. The narrow aperture creates a sufficient DOF.
Challenge: In my opinion adding the water was not necessary. But I understand the play of words you wanted to achieve. Anyway, personally I think it's a bit too much "staged" and a more natural approach to the nice forms of the cello would be better.
Creativity: A unique take on the challenge! Good idea!

Lottie by dsidwellComment by alanfreed: It's unfortunate that a lot of "cute kid" pictures don't do well here. This is a "cute kid," and it will do well by me! Great vantage point and expression on her face. Nicely done! |

Lottie by dsidwellComment by timj351: Absolutely beautiful. My top pick. The composition, colors, and perspective are perfect. The great texture and details throughout realy help tie it all together.
