The clock on platform 3by docjonnyComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting challenge that meets the challenge
Quite a challenge this, to make something interesting from the everyday mundane that we take for granted, I think you’ve done well here though I do think it could be improved upon. Given the image here I like the graphic qualities of the clock face against the equally graphic roof. Because of this I don’t think the left of the shot contributes anything at all in fact I would say it detracts. A portrait orientated crop with the clock in the bottom left corner would, I think, work much better? |

An appealing image that contributes well to the open challenge
A great image Jonathon. Ok, so we don’t have perfect symmetry but you have made a very good job of what must have been a difficult situation. What makes the image work so well is the clarity of detail and what a lot of interesting detail there is to absorb. The overall exposure is good the colours are well saturated against the near pastels of the plainer (if such a word can be used here!) surfaces. A great job, well done |

The chapelby docjonnyComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Ahhh yes, yet another victim of whatever foibles wander the DPC voter mind...*sigh* If it's any consolation, you beat my entry by miles! ...even worse, imnsho, when pp tricks like inverting are used. Like you I find the restrictions of the Minimal ruleset to be a little aggravating. However that also means that having a tighter set of rules to work with means having to put a lot more thought into a capture. The basic composition is fine, the focus sharp and lots of detail. Good settings though a shutter speed of 1/1600 seems a bit high to me...it's a building, not a rodeo bronc!
I think the main reason this image did poorly was because it isn't quite big enough to be a true architecture shot, and also the vertical crop - that means voters have to scroll up and down to see the image in full and impact is lost.
Hope this helps, feel free to PM me
Susan
