He looks like a he in the portrait-y shot. The cere (the area right above the beak) is usually blue in male budgies. There's your trivia lesson for the day ;-) If he does talk I want to know what it sounds like; I've heard it's kind of like a high-voiced robot but I've never heard one speak. And congrats on the acquisition; he'll make a fun model (and companion)!

The light and detail is great! And the preening pose is not cliche, though I bet it's one you see often (I have a bird, too). What a cutie :-)
