I'm no expert so I can only tell you what I would have done - whether it is right or wrong I am not sure. I love this! It is GORGEOUS. The eyes really pull you in. The detail on the fur is awesome. So the thing I would have done would be to cut off the part on the left, and just kept this as a face shot. Very pretty!

I LOVE this!!!! Perfect title too (did you read the book, excellent by the way). I just love how the fence leads into the fog and to the house, perfect composition.

Super subject - don't like the grain so much, but the tone bothers me more. I'm guessing the dreadlocks are in real life black or brown, because I have children here at home that look like this - it seems really off to see them grey - but I have a bias so others who don't have kids who look like this may not be bothered.

And I'm SO GLAD you did move out of your comfort zone. Excellent view point on that fence. I don't think I would have included the house in the back, just relied on the strength of the fence alone.

Very nice, I think you're on the right track, but I agree with others that said to go for it - I think it could use more contrast, and a bit of diagonal to avoid the long vertical line of the fence. Great job, Jack

Catherine - i really like this image a great deal. The repeating line from the beach fence -especially being almost completely black - really reinforces the idea that this scene goes on forever. Your choice of cropping works really well - closed in and tight - so that no unnecessary information is brought to the viewer. One thing I have seen with your B/W photos so far is a tendency not to kick up the contrast enough. B/W photos tend to have the full dynamic range from full black to full white. Muted tones can work on some images, but using the full range (pushing it a bit more than you already have in your first three entries) will create a more film like image.
