Dadby LonniComment by bvy: Very genuine, obviously not posed or staged (if it is, then he gets an Oscar). The blurred watch distracts somewhat, and I'm not sure it or the contents of his shirt pocket are necessary anyway. I like the textures in his face, and the sunlight catches his hair nicely. I think this would be great in black-and-white too. |

Dadby LonniComment by MelonMusketeer: This is a nice relaxed pose shot. The reflector worked to smooth out the light, and help bring out the happy mood. |

Wishing Wellby LonniComment by Yo_Spiff: Nice and detailed, perhaps could use a little more visual oomph and sparkle with some curves adjustments. |

New Couple.jpgby LonniComment by MattO: I think this is nice, one thing that sticks out is the racoon eyes. I dont know the nikon speed light so I cant say for sure, but is there a small white pull out bounce card on it? Perhaps pull it out to toss some fill forward. Otherwise, I might suggest a good modifier, Many complain out the lightsphere being wasteful of light, but its very flattering and tosses good light in all directions. Might look into it. I'd also like to commend you on the job on the eyes, very hard to tell anything was done. |

Fresh One.jpgby LonniComment by Kelli: They do look very happy! You can tell the expressions are genuine. Nice job with the glasses, those types are a nightmare for photography. |

Fresh One.jpgby LonniComment by Ken: I can't add much to what K10DGuy said about the technicals. However, what jumps out at me are those genuine smiles of the proud parents, and their size compared to their daughter, demonstrating how fragile life is. |

Fresh One.jpgby LonniComment by K3Master: I'm sure that if you hadn't pointed it out in your comments that I wouldn't have noticed it, but now that I do, I can't say that the burning on the baby's clothing or the mother's jacket is something that I like a lot. It looks rather unrealistic once noticeable, and doesn't really add anything to the shot. What I would have done differently is used a smaller brush size and burned the shadows that are already *there* to get them to stand out a tiny bit more, if anything. (although even then, there are better ways to darken the shadows.)
Over-all, however, it's a cute little scene with some genuine expressions, which is always great. The brick wall kind of adds a 'depressive' feel to the shot, which contrasts a bit with the happy expressions. Not sure if you had much other choice of background, but even moving them out from the wall and standing back to zoom in a bit to get a shallower DOF would have helped immensely, I think.
Nice control of the exposure too. |
