Not really sure that the window frame really adds to the overall photo. The black and white processing does work well here. You have both true white and black, without large overexposed areas, which is always the challenge in these photos. The large sky area does not quite have the interest to really take up this much of the photo, as the subjects, the cranes, are pretty small here........

I like this shot, and voted it a 7 during voting. I think its strengths are that it is different, that she is out of focus, and the intense concentration she has on the candle. Its too bad it didnt receive any comments during voting... it certainly deserved it, and looking back, I should have left more comments myself. :D

Nice concept and composition. The in-focus candle and the OOF person adds interest and a certain tension -- I would be curious how this would look had the person also been in focus. When first looking at this I could not understand how the title and the image relate to each other. Even after reading your explanation I am still somewhat confused because I have not read the book.
