train on the window paneby posthumousComment by Kelli: Is it a dirty window? Cause I know it wasn't snowing! LOL! This is a great shot! I didn't vote in this challenge, but would have given this at least a 9. |

Canikaze - wind of dogby posthumousComment by Melethia: Hi Grace. I'm gonna have to go see if that's really a word... it's not (in English, anyway, according to dictionary.com). Maybe dervish? I suspect you're after the dervish behavior of a dog in motion creating a whirlwind of sorts. Whether it meets the challenge or not - well, I suspect mostly "not" - I like the accent of the leash and the way the motion pattern of the ground blends with the fur of the dog. |

I took the bokeh less travelled byby posthumousComment by mist: I reckon this was far too harshly treated. I didn't vote on the challenge because I had my entry in it, but I'd likely have settled around the 6 mark on this one. Yeah, the shadow at the front is a tad distracting, and it would have been nice to have the focus dead sharp at the branch of the lines, but come on, that's a great background / out of focus area that really complements the rest of the shot - the very essence of Bokeh.
In this challenge though, you obviously had to make all the voters go "ooo, shiny" in order to win big. Never mind that this has artistic watercolour quality to it. |

I took the bokeh less travelled byby posthumousComment by Melethia: Every once in awhile I think you throw one out there that possibly should have been simply thrown out, just to see what reaction you might get. I do like the basic composition of this - the leading line through and out of the trees from the fork in the path, so to speak. Has potential to be a pretty darn good shot, though I'd end it at the bottom of the light "v" - have the canopy of trees be the terminus. Then you have the shiny bit of yellow and the opening near it up at the top of the picture, leading the viewer out and beyond.
Technicals, however, are another story. To my untrained and ignorant-of-finer-things eye, technicals pretty much suck, and in this case seriously detract from what could be a decent picture. Message edited by author 2006-11-02 14:10:31. |

Losing With Graceby posthumousComment by Melethia: As much as I love shooting my cats, I didn't play in this thread for kinda the same reason you noted. I love the premature eulogy here - is it original? I'll add that I'm glad you still have Grace with you. I've put down three so far in my adult life - a dog (15) and two cats (15 and 16) - and its nearly impossible to do. The single biggest defect pets have is they just don't live long enough.
I will say that they do visit me on occasion in dreams, which is simply delightful beyond words.
Say hi to Gracie for me. |

The Morning Rushby posthumousComment by Melethia: I quite like this one, but it takes more than one viewing to really appreciate it. The DPC two-second view doesn't cut it. I seem to recall there were discussions that the sky was oversharpened - I disagree.
First impression - when taken with the title, it's somewhere I'd like to live if this is rush hour in the morning. It appears lightly lived in yet deeply settled. No mass rush, a few houses here and there amidst the trees, one tower in the distance. The presentation leads one to think this one on/off ramp/curve is the only one serving this distant community, and that's all it needs.
The one commenter mentioned it's hard to tell if it's sea and sky or just sky - doesn't matter. If one wants to see it as sea and sky, it's there. Also doesn't matter to me that it's evening and not morning. I can't tell the difference without knowing the direction you're facing and the B&W disguises it even more.
It's quietly comfortable. I think that pretty much goes with what Mr 301 said, too. |

Canikaze - wind of dogby posthumousComment by Borusa: Sorry, but to me this is just a picture of a dog that's difficult to see - it's hard to get much in the way of "wind" image here. Cute dog, though. |
