Standoffby posthumousComment by luv2photo: DNMC for me. I am sure you were expecing that though. I don't see the child's toy here. Is that what he is holding in the shadows? |

Self Portraitby posthumousComment by levyj413: My primary reaction is: so THAT'S what you look like. You look troubled, my friend. Whether it's because smoke is in your eyes, you're feeling what your comments say, or the camera went off before you were ready, I couldn't say. |

Facing a Visual Cultureby posthumousComment by levyj413: As usual, Don, I feel like this shot belongs on a wall with a bench in front of it. It's not an instant grabber, but rather it invites you to think about what's happening to and around this girl.
I think the picture tells about how blind people perceive the world without help: one big jumble. It begins with her facing away from the folks behind her and continues through the confused background. And the tones are so stark, emphasizing the harshness of making your way in a sighted world without sight.
Oh. I just got this was a challenge entry. :) I'm not sure how well this fits with the challenge theme, but I know you don't really care about that.
The only thing that bothers me is that she almost looks pasted in. I think it's because of the dark outline on her cheek on the image-right side and neck on the image-left side. |

Standoffby posthumousComment by jasonlprice: Having a big family this is all to familiar to me! Great composition and dramatic lighting. Even if I didn't "get it" this would be a great photo for its simple design and lighting. Congratulations on taking such a wonderful photo. 9 |

Standoffby posthumousComment by Jedusi: Quite a powerful shot - but I'm struggling to make the connection with childrens toys . . looks more like a poster on bullying to me.
Or maybe an Ingar Bergman film. B&W, long pauses without much happening and not very cheerful . .

Confrontationby posthumousComment by bucket: you know it is hard to follow such a strong reaction...and one that is not unfair, yet I don't feel the same way...I am drawn to this pointless landscape with Burt Reynolds in the foreground...I don't know why, as really you have made this completely bland by lowering the contrast levels to the point where I want to look away...mundane yes, but why does he have his hand sitting like that and why is he standing there?
and man I want to letterbox this sucker, but hey I will leave my personal obsessions on my computer...
though I think it is because the sky is too strong here, and too separate from this confrontation...
I am saying nothing right, wandering around but definitely not ignoring, and you just stand back and smile, aware that you have stopped me in your tracks...
I plan to call this shot Transit, I am simply ignoring you now... |

Confrontationby posthumousComment by gjumi: Such a usual mundane scene, bordering to boredom, with such unusual colours, repelling and insulting to Nature (She wouldn't make something so ugly!)...I fail to understand what's going on and what's the point, as if there should be one...A transit to where? A good exercise, but a real artist would never show this to everyone, so if I could, now that I know, I'd vote this a 1. |
